Install
Needs env vars: ES_URL, ES_API_KEY — replace the <placeholders> with your values.
Docker is the documented install; Elastic has deprecated this server in favor of Agent Builder.
claude mcp add elasticsearch --env ES_URL=<ES_URL> --env ES_API_KEY=<ES_API_KEY> -- docker run -i --rm -e ES_URL -e ES_API_KEY docker.elastic.co/mcp/elasticsearch stdio/mcp confirms it's connected.
Or add it manually in ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"elasticsearch": {
"command": "docker",
"args": [
"run",
"-i",
"--rm",
"-e",
"ES_URL",
"-e",
"ES_API_KEY",
"docker.elastic.co/mcp/elasticsearch",
"stdio"
],
"env": {
"ES_URL": "<ES_URL>",
"ES_API_KEY": "<ES_API_KEY>"
}
}
}
}In claude_desktop_config.json (Settings → Developer → Edit Config), then restart:
{
"mcpServers": {
"elasticsearch": {
"command": "docker",
"args": [
"run",
"-i",
"--rm",
"-e",
"ES_URL",
"-e",
"ES_API_KEY",
"docker.elastic.co/mcp/elasticsearch",
"stdio"
],
"env": {
"ES_URL": "<ES_URL>",
"ES_API_KEY": "<ES_API_KEY>"
}
}
}
}Config entry, any MCP client:
{
"command": "docker",
"args": [
"run",
"-i",
"--rm",
"-e",
"ES_URL",
"-e",
"ES_API_KEY",
"docker.elastic.co/mcp/elasticsearch",
"stdio"
],
"env": {
"ES_URL": "<ES_URL>",
"ES_API_KEY": "<ES_API_KEY>"
}
